Scientists call for creation of international AI regulatory body; echoes IPCC model

Leading researchers and policy experts are urging creation of a global AI governance authority modeled on the IPCC (climate), to harmonize standards, oversee frontier model development, and coordinate safety research across jurisdictions.

WHY IT MATTERS

Currently fragmented: EU AI Act, UK FCA guidance, US executive orders, China rules. A global body would pressure BFSI to adopt unified compliance frameworks for model risk, but risk reduces regulatory competition and innovation velocity.
