EU gains enforcement powers over high-risk AI systems under AI Act

The EU AI Act's enforcement mechanisms took effect today, giving regulators direct authority to supervise and fine developers of powerful AI models. This marks the first major regulatory regime globally treating frontier AI as a controlled product category.

WHY IT MATTERS

Banks and fintech firms deploying LLMs for lending, fraud detection, or KYC must now document compliance with EU transparency, bias, and human-oversight rules or face fines up to 6% of global revenue.
