HSBC joins London Stock Exchange's Digital Gilt Instrument pilot as investor depository
HSBC has joined HM Treasury and the London Stock Exchange Group in the Digital Gilt Instrument (Digit) pilot, acting as investor depository. Marks first major UK bank custodian backing blockchain-native government bond issuance.
WHY IT MATTERS
Proof that settlement and custody can move on-chain for fixed income. If successful, opens HSBC (and competitors) to reinvent repo, collateral management, and yield attribution using distributed ledger—reducing operational risk and cost for institutional clients.
