Deepfake detection expert: proving authenticity harder than spotting fakes
UC Berkeley professor Hany Farid, an AI deepfake expert, told fraud conferences the real challenge is no longer detecting AI forgeries—it's proving what's real. Even obvious figures (like Mitch McConnell) can be doubted.
WHY IT MATTERS
Fraud prevention paradigm shift: can't rely on skepticism of fakes. Banks need affirmative proof-of-authenticity systems for identity, documents, and transactions. Reactive detection fails.
