Google expands AI training to include user-uploaded media without explicit consent

Google broadened its data-collection policy to use media uploaded via search tools to train AI models. Policy change was implemented quietly, affecting users across multiple Google services. No prior explicit opt-in was required.

WHY IT MATTERS

BFSI compliance teams must audit vendor data policies for hidden re-use clauses. If financial institutions or customers upload documents (mortgage statements, tax returns, compliance reports) to Google services for search, they may now train Google's LLMs—creating IP leakage and regulatory exposure.
